Name: Old Fashioned Date Nut Bread
Prep: 30 minutes
Cook: 50 minutes
Total prep time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Serving Size: 1 loaf
raw material:
3/4 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tbsp shortening
3/4 cup boiling water
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
instruct:
In a medium bowl combine dates, nuts, club soda, and salt. Add shortening and boiling water. Stir until shortening melts. Let stand for 20 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Gradually add sugar and flour. Stir until fully combined.
Bake in a 350°F oven for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
Let stand for 24 hours or more before slicing.
